The organisation

Increased cooperation is our goal.

The Barents Road International Association was formed in 1997 and actively works to promote increased cooperation in the Barents region. Our members are mainly municipalities and businesses from all of the countries that the Barents Road traverses – Norway, Sweden, Finland and northwestern Russia. On the menu you’ll find further information about current projects and links to our members and partners.

Activity
Activities are chiefly conducted as projects. Financing comes from membership fees and grants from project participants. We will be applying for support from external financial backers such as the EU and others. The various projects may be local, national or international in scope.

Membership
Ordinary members are municipalities, towns and cities that benefit from the road communications. Associate membership is offered to all interested businesses, organizations, institutions, associations, etc. that can benefit from the road association and who are willing to support it and its concept. The yearly membership fee for associate members is SEK 8000.

Organization
The association’s highest deciding body is the annual assembly. The organization is headed by a board of directors with two members from each country. Chairmanship rotates among the countries. A work team with two members from each country is associated with the board of directors.
